OBJECTIVE

In this project, I wanted to create a website for photographers. I wanted to help them network, and let them share their work worldwide in the simplest possible way.

OVERVIEW

Problem Statement

The websites I visited for my research were overloaded with information. It was too complicated to share your work. Plus, most had little UX that supported networking.

Solution

‘Objective’ helps photographers share their work with the world.

My Role

UX designer

Tools

Adobe XD, Photoshop

Time Line

2 weeks

Project Type

Personal Project

User Persona

I asked my photographer friend to share his habits and frustrations. I also asked him the ideal website for sharing his work and what kind of functionality he wanted. I incorporated the insights into his user persona.

Bio

Ozan is a senior photographer who loves art and travel. He is organized, hardworking, and always looking for new challenges and opportunities. Ozan’s favorite quote is “I want to capture real people, real life!”

Goal

Ozan needs to share his photography work easily, connect with people worldwide, and express his art.

Frustrations

Finding a suitable workplace and building relationships with the photographers is a challenge for Ozan.

Crazy Eights

I start with the crazy eights method. I want to challenge myself and sketch fast as possible to capture my initial ideas.

Wireframes

The process below begins with initial ideas wireframes, then moves to mockups, and finally to a high-fidelity prototype.

Low-Fidelity Wireframes

I brought my ideas in an interactive, low-fidelity prototype to potential users to collect feedback.

User Research
High-Fidelity Wireframes

I conducted a user testing session with Ozan. I took his responses through a card sorting exercise.

After the user research, I determined some pain points, made some radical changes, and created high-fidelity wireframes.

Testing

Major changes after user feedback
  • I didn't put the sign-up and log-in section when I made the first wireframe. I changed that with the high fidelity version.

  • I changed the home page font size; I made it bigger and broader so users have a clear reading experience. This change also shows off the central theme of the website.

  • I change the category section to 'find a job'.  My design thinking was to give users simple options to find the perfect fit job.

  • In the 'meet the photographers' section, my first idea was to create a network platform in the USA, but I changed to international. Users can find and develop networks all over the world.

Mobile Adaptation

I made some changes to designs when adapting to the mobile version because of the limited screen size, and it worked!

Key Learnings

I used Adobe XD as the primary design software for this project, even though I am more familiar with Figma. I did so to try out different tools. I also had to create many significant assets such as grids and patterns for this project. I understand that it is better to design these assets on other pages or files instead of directly on the UI screen. Doing so helps resize designs when working with other devices.
